What kind of sports does the student of Wrocław schools practice and how does he or she cope with failure and success? – the analysis of parents’ utterances
The aim of the study was to find out about the opinions expressed by parents of 10-year-old students attending Wrocław schools about participation of their children in sports activities and their abilities of behaving in different situations, for example, failure and success. The survey was conducted in May 2008 on the initiative of the Młodzieżowe Centrum Sportu in Wrocław and included parents of third classes from fourteen primary schools. The technique used was survey and the questionnaire of 12 questions designed for the study. This paper dealt with 5 of the questions. Altogether 770 surveys of parents were analyzed (381 concerned girls and 389 boys). Additionally, parents’ education was analyzed. The analysis of results obtained lead to the following conclusions:
1. 62.7% of parents of examined girls and 71.2% parents of examined boys think their children are active and take part in sports activities. Most often sports activities are organized and all families participate in it.
2. Together with their parents 10-year-old children practice more often: cycling, swimming, skiing and running and playing football (boys).
3. 67.6% parents of examined girls and 67.8% of examined boys say that in the case of a failure their children try to improve their performance, and in the case of a success they set new goals (girls – 68.6%, boys – 74.9%).
4. Most of examined parents had secondary education (mother – 54.4%, father – 57.3%). 39.6% of mothers and 34.1% of fathers of examined children had higher education.

The relationship between long-term aspirations and the level of task aspirations in sports class learners
The aim of the research was to determine the relationship between the long-term and task aspirations in learners attending sports class units in primary and lower secondary schools. The research was based on a diagnostic survey conducted by means of KAS-26 (Sports Aspiration Questionnaire) and an experiment consisting in a series of throws at the target in which the subjects could choose a specific level of difficulty. On the basis of the research the following conclusion can be drawn: there is a relationship between the long-term and task aspirations in reference to education and sport in learners attending sports classes. Overly cautious learners underestimate their own abilities in a task situation and display the lowest level of long-term aspirations. In contrast, risk-takers tend to choose difficult tasks, even though they fail to complete them, and exhibit a high level of long-term aspirations.

Self-assessment vs. sport performance of young golf players
The aim of the article was to present interrelationships between self-assessment, a school grade in physical education and the level of golf playing skill among young people who practice this sport.
The problems tackled in the article concern mainly the self-assessment of positive features. The analysis is concerned with the plus features which occur most frequently and those which occur least frequently in the high or average degree among the representatives of a given age group and with regard to the age.
Our research comprised 25 persons aged from 12 to 17, including 7 girls and 18 boys. The subjects are members of the National Junior Golf Team. The examinations were conducted during a junior acclimatization session on the Lisia Polana Golf Course.
In our paper the following results were presented:
– results obtained on the basis of a qualitative analysis of the positive features contained in self-assessment questionnaire designed by Niebrzydowski,
– interrelations existing between mean values of the self-assessment in the persons who have had golf sports achievements and those in the persons without any significant sports achievements. We assumed that taking 1st , 2nd and 3rd positions in the Junior Championships of Poland are golf achievements.
– interrelations existing between mean values of the self-assessment higher than the handicap average (indicator of the level of player’s skill) and the self-assessment average below the handicap average.

Interpersonal relations in the men’s junior school floorball team (aged 17–19)
On the example of a junior floorball team, authors assessed the functioning of interpersonal attitudes by using the standard method, i.e. the SUS Scale [28, 35]. Apart from defining the general interpersonal atmosphere of the whole group (n = 16) and establishing the position each player had in the informal group structure (both for the personal and material bonds) other interpersonal relations were described for the first time, those in each group formation (the first group of five, the second group of five, etc.). The results obtained prove that the interpersonal atmosphere in the whole group may not be the best, but the interpersonal relations in subgroups are more than satisfactory (compare the first group of five – the best as far as sports skills are concerned).

Motives of participation in orienteering races in Lower Silesia region – Poland
The goal of this research was to determine the motives of participation in orienteering races, which are typical of children and young people. Data collected may be used for understanding better the reasons which lead participants to compete in such races and, consequently, for encouraging children more effectively to take up this sport. The questionnaire was used as a tool of data collecting. It turned out that the most frequent motives of participation are needs for activity, to compete, to point at success (winning medals) and strive for rivalry. Motives are strictly connected with gender and orienteering practice of children and youth.

The relations between the structure of motivation for practicing sport and the selected features of personality in high school students
Purpose:
The purpose of this study was to analyze the relations between the structure of motivation for practicing sport and the selected features of personality in students training in high school sports clubs.
Basic procedures:
The sample consisted of 108 Polish students, aged between 16 and 19, who were measured for 1. dimensions of personality: openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism by using the NEO-Five Factor Inventory (NEO-FFI) designed by Costa and McCrae and 2. motivation types (intrinsic motivation, extrinsic motivation and amotivation) using the Sport Motivation Scale (SMS) created by Pelletier et al.
Main findings:
The average structure of motivation of students was established. The same exploration was made for personal features. The results revealed many correlations, e.g. correlation between neuroticism and amotivation, between extraversion and introjections, between openness and amotivation, among conscientiousness and IM to know, IM toward accomplishments and introjections.
Conclusions:
depending on dimensions of personality coaches need to apply specific methods to cause an increase of motivation types toward sport.

Integrated education with the use of educational balls ”edubal” vs. acquisition of mathematical skills in children of grade I primary school
Due to the reform in education initiated in 1999 (regulation of Ministry of National Education, 19 April 1999) teachers have new spheres of freedom. They are able to put into practice methods, means and forms which can favour pupils’ individual and social development. In grades from I to III education is not divided into subjects. Activities take place according to a plan designed by the teacher. Thanks to these changes teachers can combine contents of different subjects concentrated around the general education core curriculum. Physical education together with mathematical, linguistic, environmental educations, etc. should compose one entirety and should be equally important in the education system. Nevertheless, physical education in primary school is often treated as an insignificant interlude, whereas teachers frequently do not notice the possibility of including contents of other subjects to physical education. Having in mind the postulates of integrated and multidirectional education which should combine different spheres of children’s activity we decided to carry out a pedagogical experiment which can give a chance to implement those postulates.
The aim of the research was to define relations between the employment of educational balls “edubal” and mathematical skills in the first year of primary school. The experiment (done in Primary School in Bystrzyca Kłodzka) lasted one year. As a result, it was possible to assess the validity and effectiveness of the method. Two classes took part in the experiment: experimental (with educational balls “edubal” during physical activities) and control (without educational balls). At the end of the school year pupils from experimental class achieved better results in mathematical skills than their peers from control class.

Education- and sport-oriented long-term aspirations of learners attending sports classes
The aim of the research was to establish the type, scope and level of aspiration in learners attending sports class units. The research was based on a diagnostic survey conducted by means of KAS-26 (Sports Aspiration Questionnaire).
The research reveals that the sport discipline the learners specialise in influences the level of long-term aspirations. It can be concluded that learners focusing on individual disciplines tend to have a high level of aspiration in terms of education and average in sport initiatives. On the other hand, the youth training team sports show average education-oriented aspirations and low sport-oriented ones. Additionally, age and gender can be regarded as factors influencing aspirations of the learners who took part in the study.

Leisure-time education of middle-school students, in the opinions of parents
In a process of school education, the preparation of students for a proper use of their leisure time plays a significant role in an overall education. In this paper, the process was examined on a group of parents of students attending grade III of the middle schools in Wrocław. The aim of this study was to diagnose the present state of education of the leisure time culture. The method of diagnostic sounding was employed by using the questionnaire form as the research tool. The research was conducted during 2006/2007 school year in eight, randomly selected, middle-schools. As follows from the results, 58.3% of parents evaluated the after-classes activity of schools as not satisfactory. About 40% of them could not determine whether the school provides the education of a leisure time. This indicates that a large group of parents expressed their negative opinions about this education. In the parents’ opinions, both school and family should have the most important influence on the establishment of free-time standards in adolescents. The responders stated that education of leisure time is very important (49.8%) or important (37%). Only a small percentage of them described this process as of a little importance (2.4%) or unimportant (0.9%). About 7.6% of them did not have any opinion about this issue. The process of preparation of students for the valuable use of their leisure time was evaluated as good by 23.6% and as very good in 5.7%. A large group of parents (30.2%) did not have any opinion.

Preparation of high school students for sport culture activities (research report)
Introduction:
According to the latest theory in physical education, teachers are due to prepare students to take care of body values through their lifetime. To do so, they should provide students with cultural competences that would help them participate in health culture, leisure activities, motor behaviour aesthetics and sport. Contents of the PE Programme for education level IV clearly indicate that it is necessary for a student to: understand the correlation between professional and amateur sport, and health; know the effects and consequences of using steroids and other illegal doping substances; be able to play the role of a sports fan and/or referee. The aim of the research was to establish which contents of “Skills” and “Information” sections, developing youth competence to participate in sports culture, were realized by students of University School of Physical Education during their teaching training at high schools.
Research material and methods:
Research was conducted on a group of 5th year students of the University School of Physical Education in Wrocław who completed their teaching training in high schools. Research material was collected by means of a document analysis method. The analysis was based on trainees’ report, specifically the objectives of physical education lesson in terms of the “Skills” and “Information” tasks fulfillment.
Results:
1. Students, as physical culture participants, acquired a range of technical abilities mostly in athletic events such as: running (sprints, long distance, relay race, hurdling), long and high jumps, throws. Whereas, the development of referee and manager’s competences was very scarce.
2. In terms of knowledge acquisition, the competences involved the acquaintance with terminology of home positions and technical exercises, regulations and refereeing of the acquired forms of physical activity, school sport clubs’ organizational structure and the damaging impact of the use of performance-enhancing drugs in sports.
